Citation work for Aurora businesses that corrects the record first

Your business name, address and phone number sit on sites nobody at your shop has ever logged into. We find every version, decide which one is true, correct the rest, then build the listings that carry weight for an Aurora business. Quality over count, rechecked quarterly.

What Aurora citation audits turn up

Six versions of one Aurora business

Six patterns that show up in Aurora audits, and the paperwork each one takes to put right.

“We moved from a suite in Aurora Village to Industrial Parkway South and the old address keeps turning up.”

The fix. A move does more citation damage than anything else, because directories keep whatever they were handed and nobody tells them the business left. We list every site carrying the old suite, claim or contact each one, and push the corrected record through the aggregators first so the downstream sites follow. Then the footer, the contact page, the schema, the invoices and the email signature get changed, since those seed the next round of listings.

“There are two of us on Yelp and I did not create either listing.”

The fix. Duplicates arrive from suppliers, scraped data, franchise systems and customers adding a business themselves. Two live records split the reviews and the signal between them. We work out which one holds the stronger history, claim it, then merge or remove the others through each platform's own process, which is documentation rather than cleverness. One Aurora listing per location ends up carrying everything instead of two carrying half each.

“Our name appears four ways, one of them with Aurora stuffed into it and one with our main service.”

The fix. Google treats the business name as an identifier, so four spellings read as doubt, and a name padded with a town or a service breaks the rules and can draw a suspension. We settle on the name from your registration and your signage, then push it everywhere. Aurora belongs in the service area, the categories and the description, where it is allowed to work for you.

“A past agency sold us a big bundle of directory submissions and I have no idea where they went.”

The fix. Volume bundles leave thin listings on sites with no readers and no editorial standard, sometimes with a phone number that was wrong the day it was submitted. We audit what exists, keep anything an Aurora customer might genuinely use, correct what is salvageable, and let the junk age out rather than chase removals that change nothing. Then the tier one platforms that got skipped are built properly.

“We run a shop in Aurora and a second one in Newmarket and the listings keep blending together.”

The fix. Two locations need two records, each with its own address, its own phone number, its own Business Profile and its own page on the site for the listings to point at. Sharing a number or aiming both listings at the homepage is what makes platforms merge them. We separate the records, build the pages, and keep the Aurora and Newmarket service areas from overlapping further than the trucks honestly do.

“We put a tracked number on the van and now I cannot tell which number is where.”

The fix. Tracked lines are useful and they are also a reliable way to break a citation record, because the tracked number goes on the van and the website while the old one stays on dozens of listings. We name one number as the canonical citation line, usually the main business number, keep tracking where it can be attributed properly, and make the change across every listing in one pass.

What we actually optimise

Nine pieces of the citation work

Everything evidenced in the ledger, and every account left in your own name when the engagement ends.

Listing audit

Every listing we can find carrying your name, address, phone or website, across the aggregators, the big platforms and your trade directories, with each discrepancy written out in the ledger.

The canonical record

One agreed name, address, phone number, website and set of hours, taken from the registration and the Business Profile, written down as the version every listing gets corrected to.

Tier one platforms

Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, Yellow Pages Canada, Canada411, Facebook and Foursquare claimed or corrected first, because the smaller sites take their data from these.

Duplicate resolution

Duplicate and auto generated records found, the strongest one kept, the rest merged or removed through each platform's process with whatever paperwork it demands, so one location holds one listing.

Trade directories

The directories that earn their place for your work in Aurora: HomeStars and TrustedPros for trades, BBB where trust closes the sale, RateMDs for clinics, TripAdvisor and OpenTable for restaurants.

Profile completion

More than a name and a number. Categories, services, hours, payment methods, photos, a written description and a link to the right page, because a half filled listing is a weak one.

Footer and schema

The address in the site footer, on the contact page and inside the LocalBusiness schema matched to the canonical record, because the website is what Google checks the directories against.

Two location handling

A separate record, landing page and Business Profile for each site if you run more than one across Aurora, Newmarket or Richmond Hill, so the two never collapse into each other.

Quarterly recheck

A look every quarter for new duplicates, scraped records and data that has drifted back, because directories revive old listings on their own timetable and send no warning.

What we fix before we build

First we find the holes. Then we fill them.

Most of what is costing you calls is already on your site. We audit what exists before we add anything, and we verify a restorable backup before we touch a thing.

Broken links and 4xx errorsDead pages and dead ends, found by a rendered crawl, fixed and rechecked with a second crawl.
Missing or duplicate H1s and metadataEvery page gets one title, one H1 and one job. No two pages competing for the same search.
Redirect chains and indexing alertsCanonical, redirect and coverage alerts in Search Console resolved, not left sitting in the inbox.
Orphaned pagesPages with zero internal links get linked into the site or retired with a redirect.
Pages that are no longer trueArticles describing services you stopped offering are corrected or removed before they generate the wrong calls.
Backups, plugins, DNS and emailBackups that quietly stopped running, overlapping plugins, and the DNS and email records that decide whether your quotes land in inboxes.
How the work moves

Four steps from inquiry to the phone ringing.

No slide deck, no twelve-month contract. A one-page scope, a verified backup, then the cleanup and the build, reported every month in five parts.

01Week one

We read it properly.

Your website, your Google Business Profile and the businesses already ranking in Aurora, Richmond Hill and Newmarket, before we reply. If we are not the right fit for your market or your stage, we say so and point you somewhere better.

02Week one

A 30-minute fit call.

What is costing you calls today, what we would fix first, what we would build after that, and what it costs. Straight numbers, no slide deck.

03Week two

A one-page scope, then access and a backup.

What we fix, what we build, what we report each month, and the monthly figure. Website admin, Google Business Profile, Search Console and analytics access, then a backup taken and verified before anything is touched.

04Month one on

Cleanup, build, report.

The site stops leaking calls first. Then the service and town pages, the profile rhythm and the schema. Every month: baseline, work completed, what moved in search, what it did for the business, next action.

Questions from Aurora citation building

Asked on most fit calls.

If yours is not here, the direct line is (647) 717-7785, and the answer comes from the person who would do the work. You might also want to read how we work.

What exactly counts as a citation?

Any mention of your business name, address and phone number on another website, whether you put it there or not. Google uses the set as corroboration: if a dozen independent sources agree that your company sits at one address in Aurora with one phone number, that is evidence you are real and local. If they disagree, Google has to pick, and picking costs you position in the map pack. Citations are not a growth lever by themselves. They are the ground the profile and the service pages stand on.

How many listings does an Aurora business need?

Fewer than any volume package will tell you, and each one complete. What matters is that the tier one sources agree, that the directories relevant to your category are covered, and that every listing is filled in rather than a bare name and number. An Aurora plumber needs HomeStars and TrustedPros far more than a general directory nobody visits, a clinic needs RateMDs, and a restaurant near Yonge and Wellington needs TripAdvisor and OpenTable. Past that, extra listings add very little.

Is cleaning up old listings better than adding new ones?

Yes, and with established Aurora businesses it is not close. Almost every company we audit has an old address, a dead number or a profile it never claimed sitting somewhere it had forgotten. Each one is a live contradiction in the record. A new listing adds one quiet vote, while removing a contradiction clears the confusion that was holding the whole profile down. That is why the audit comes before the build, and why the ledger shows what was wrong and what it became.

How do you handle an Aurora and a Richmond Hill location?

Each location gets its own record: its own address, its own phone number, its own Business Profile and its own page on the website for the listings to point at. Sharing a number, or aiming both listings at the homepage, is what makes platforms merge them or show the wrong one. We keep the service areas honest as well, since two profiles claiming Aurora and Newmarket equally end up competing with each other. The extra effort sits in the build rather than the monthly work.

How long before citation work shows up in search?

Citations move slower than profile work, because every directory updates on its own timetable and the aggregators push data downstream over a matter of weeks. Google Business Profile work can move within weeks, so it goes ahead of this. Across the businesses in our case studies the first movement in search showed inside the first 90 days, and the compounding came in months four to twelve. Nobody can promise a ranking by a date, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Does Keyo buy links or paid placements?

No. Directory listings and bought backlinks are different things, and we build only the listings a real Aurora customer might plausibly use. Keyo does not buy links, does not buy badges and does not touch private networks. The links that count get earned through the pages and the articles we publish and through the suppliers and associations you already deal with. If somebody is selling a link package, ask which sites, then go and look at those sites. That settles it quicker than any argument we could make.

Selective partnerships, meaningful results

If the ambition is serious, let's talk.

We review every inquiry personally and accept only the partnerships where we believe we can create a meaningful advantage in Aurora, Newmarket and York Region.
